Why Come to Satsang?
At long last, you found yourself in Amma's lap. But then she travels around the world. You may be wondering how you can retain the unconditional love and inner joy you felt in her presence. Then, "satsang" is next best to being there. Satsang literally means "association with the wise or like-minded people."
One of the best ways to sustain that happiness is to meet with people who also have been with Amma or those that are interested in spirituality. When you hear their stories (and they hear yours), the aliveness of her presence is amplified. Little by little, as with the blind people who touched and described an elephant, you come to know the truth more fully by sharing individual experiences collectively. Satsang allows an easy, consistent way to reflect and practice Amma's teachings.
Satsang groups offer the opportunity to remember, nurture and discover those experiences of Divine Love.

Grace Church Seva
Grace Episcopal Church
116 W Washington Ave, Madison, WI
Third Monday of each month, 6:30 PM
As a part of Mother's Kitchen activities, we have been serving DINNER on the third Monday of every other month to guests at the homeless shelter at Grace Episcopal Church in Madison, WI since September 2007.
The number of guests varies from about 60 in the summer to about 120 in the winter. Funds for this seva come entirely from the members of Amma's Madison Satsang. Several members also contribute their time by buying groceries and preparing the meals at the shelter, and find this to be a deeply fulfilling seva. You are welcome to participate in the seva!
Luke House
Community Meal Program
310 South Ingersoll Street, Madison
First Sunday and second Tuesday of each month, 5:15 PM
Luke House is one of the oldest continuously running community meal services in the country. Volunteers from area faith groups serve an evening meal there Sunday through Thursday. The primary mission of the Community Meals Program is to build community and remove some of the common barriers that separate people, such as race and social status. To this end, volunteers sit down and eat with the guests at round tables for eight, and meals are served restaurant style rather than cafeteria style. The number of guests ranges from about 50 to over 150, depending on various factors such as season, weather and the time of month. Not all guests are homeless. Some are employed people with low incomes who can’t afford food after paying for shelter. Some prefer to eat in a community atmosphere rather than alone.
At Luke House, each volunteer group is asked to prepare a meal as wonderful as they would serve to guests in their own homes. Some of Amma’s Madison Satsang members join members of other groups in setup, serving and cleanup on first Sundays and second Tuesdays of every month. On second Tuesdays, Satsang members also help prepare and serve vegetarian lasagna, a high quality organic garden salad, bread, butter, milk and cookies.
A Luke House guest says, “I just wanted to add my note of thanks for the presence of these meals. Knowing that I can come here when needed and get a nourishing meal makes so many other things possible. Your providing this meal means a chance to do more than just survive. Thanks so much for continuing to provide this place of blessing for us.”
A Luke House volunteer says, “I realized it wasn't just the food that brings people to the Community Meal Program. It's community. It's safety. It's acceptance. It's a place without judgment, a place of equals....”
“I'd miss the friendly efficiency of a dozen or more people working together to pull off a banquet for 200. I'd miss the quiet thank yous, the cleanup, the thoughtful walk back to work. I'd miss the monthly community I've helped create over the past decade.”
If you wish to participate, please email us.
Bhajan Practice
Usually First Sunday of each month at 11 AM, but check the Upcoming local Amma Events for time and location.
"Bhajan is a spiritual discipline aimed at concentrating the mind on one's Beloved Deity. Through that one-pointedness, one can merge in the Divine Being and experience the Bliss of one's True Self."
— Amma
Members of the Satsang gather to practice singing Amma's bhajans (devotional songs) in preparation for the monthly satsang. The bhajans we practice are simple to learn and sing — all skill levels are welcome. Words are provided, and music is by CD or by one of the harmonium players in our group. We would love to have a tabla player!
